The FPHL Returns to Danbury!
On May 3rd, 2019 at 11:00 AM Eastern, the FPHL returned to Danbury with the announcement of an expansion team for the 2019-2020 season, the Danbury Hat Tricks. Two years ago, the Danbury Titans folded after owners decided to cease operations in August 2017. Before the Titans, the Danbury Whalers were a staple team in the FPHL, leading the league in attendance in each of their five seasons. The Whalers were then evicted from their arena following the 2014-15 season. I hope this team works out, as Danbury has a history in the Fed as a staple market and the branding is amazing in my honest opinion, maybe the best in the FPHL now. The Hat Tricks takes its name from, of course, the term in hockey when a player scored three goals in a single game. Not only that, but the name also references the city's history in hat-making, being the center of the US hat industry in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, giving the city the nickname of "The Hat City". The site where the Danbury Ice Arena now stands was once Foster Brothers Hatting & Mill and the New Hat Company from 1884-1985.
